Are you looking to support a good cause while indulging and enjoying yourself? Let me inform you of the perfect opportunity! March 1 and 2 the Geek Market is making its way back to the Nepean Sportsplex, located at 1701 Woodroofe Avenue.
The family-friendly event will raise money for the Royal Ottawa Hospital while offering you the opportunity to shop, dress-up and indulge in all things “geeky.” The two-day event will feature a vast variety of items for sale including comic books, art, clothing, jewelry, books, toys, collectibles, video games, and board games.
Not only will you be able to shop until you drop but the event will also offer giant board games and a silent auction. The silent auction will offer a Zelda Wii U deluxe set, a handmade medieval shield, a vintage-style popcorn machine, and so much more. There will also be a huge LEGO display and LEGO Mindstorms EV3 will be available for bidding. If that hasn’t got you sold… I don’t know what will!
This will be the third section of the National Capital Region’s largest geeky flea market that keeps growing in popularity and size. It began in 2012 and since then the event has proudly raised more than $5,000 for charitable organizations.
“Each event we’ve held supported a different charity and had a different theme. It just made sense to us to focus on mental health this time around since it affects us all, especially this time of year” said Stacey Young, Co-Founder of the Ottawa Geek Market. “The Geek Market is a celebration of Ottawa’s thriving geeky community, and we’re proud that we can help out such a great cause while also promoting local exhibitors, artisans and fan clubs.”
The cost is $10 a day or $15 for a weekend pass, unless you are under 12: free admission. Tickets can only be purchased at the door. 100% of the money raised at the silent auction and two dollars from each ticket will be donated to the Royal Ottawa Hospital.
