Celebrating Strauss with Maestro Michel Brousseau, the Ottawa Classical Choir & String Ensemble
It’s Christmas in Vienna in Ottawa! What could be better than to celebrate the holiday season with a concert dedicated to the beloved waltzes of Johann Strauss II? The Ottawa Classical Choir (OCC) will present just such an elegant evening with Maestro Michel Brousseau conducting the orchestra and the choirs of the New World Philharmonic Society on Saturday, December 14 at 7:30 pm at Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts (310 St. Patrick Street) in Ottawa. With the music of Johann Strauss II, the audience can look forward to such favorites as The Blue Danube, The Emperor Waltz, Voices of Spring and Roses from the South that have helped establish Strauss as “the Waltz King” and earned him a place in music history.
Maestro Brousseau has directed the OCC since 2006, performing the works of such immortal composers as Guiseppe Verdi, Théodore Dubois and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Though devoted to all the classics, Maestro Brousseau’s passion is opera. In recent years, he has channelled his artistic energy in that direction, conducting in such impressive venues as the Donetsk Opera House and Kharkov Opera House in Ukraine, The Luigi Mancelli Opera House in Italy, the Burgas Opera House in Bulgaria, the famous Teatro San Carlo in Naples, as well as at the National Arts Centre and New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall.
Tickets – priced at $10 for students, $30 general admission and $40 for reserved seating – are available at all CD Warehouse locations, Compact Music, Leading Note, Books on Beechwood and through www.ottawaclassicalchoir.com
