The rain in Spain stays mainly in the BRAINS! My Fair Zombie is a feature film shot entirely in the Ottawa region by prolific indie director Brett Kelly. The story of the film is based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion and tells the lugubrious tale of Henry Higgins, a linguist who is attempting to teach an undead woman how to pass as a proper lady of high society.
My Fair Zombie is a comedy with horror elements, but it is also a musical that features original songs written by Stephen John Tippett (of the Ottawa band My Tiny Circus). My Fair Zombie stars Ottawa actors Lawrence Evenchick as Henry Higgins, Barry Caiger as Colonel Pickering and Sacha Gabriel as Eliza Dolittle, the zombie of the title.
The movie is having its Ottawa premiere at the Mayfair Theatre on November 7. My Fair Zombie recently won Best Film at the Montreal Horrorfest and will soon be screened at film festivals in Buffalo and Chicago. Toronto and Vancouver premieres are also on the horizon for the movie.
