If you’re looking for something introspective, inspiring and entertaining, don’t miss the chance to see critically-acclaimed documentary Free Trip to Egypt during its week-long run at ByTowne Cinema starting this Friday!
Canadian-Egyptian entrepreneur, and now filmmaker, Tarek Mounib conceived the idea of this film in response to islamophobia and racism that he’s witnessed and experienced first-hand as a Muslim himself. Seeking to build a bridge of mutual understanding and acceptance, Mounib, along with popular Youtuber and activist Adam Saleh, approached people from across America who held prejudiced beliefs about Muslim people with an interesting offer – a free trip to Egypt to explore the culture first-hand. This film documents the seven people, of different ages and backgrounds, who embarked on this life-changing and fascinating journey.
Alongside the documentary, the filmmakers have launched the #PledgeToListen campaign which encourages people to adopt the message of the movie into their own lives – to listen to, engage with, and be empathetic to others. After viewing the film, audiences are encouraged to visit the Free Trip to Egypt website and sign the pledge.
The film has already wowed audiences in major cities like New York City and Los Angeles and, with its 88 per cent Rotten Tomatoes score and rave reviews, will surely do the same right here in Ottawa.
Catch the premiere of Free Trip to Egypt this Friday, July 19th, at Bytowne Cinema. The screening will be followed by a special Q&A with the creator and star of the film himself Tarek Mounib, so you do not want to miss out!
