Muskoka is one the most popular vacation destinations in Canada and is well worth a visit if you’re looking for a place of beautiful scenery that will help you get away from the hustle and bustle of big city life and your busy lifestyle.
The region is located about 180km north of Toronto and it comprises a wide number of lakes and small towns. There are plenty of places to stay if you’re planning a summer break, from trailer parks and campgrounds to cottage rentals, such as these Waterfront vacation homes in Muskoka.
When planning an itinerary of things to do, you are pretty much spoiled for choice. But here are our recommendations for things to do in Muskoka this summer.
#1: Rent a boat
There are over 70 lakes in Muskoka with Lake Joseph, Lake Rosseau and Lake Muskoka being among the largest of them all. There are too many to visit during one vacation stay but as many of the lakes are connected via rivers and locks, you have the opportunity to visit several of them by water.
A lot of Muskoka’s lakes have waterside attractions, with restaurants and bars that can be accessed by boats, and a plethora of activities for both young and old. So, if you want to visit as many of Musokoka’s waterside locations as possible or simply want to enjoy the scenery around you on water instead of by foot, then a boat rental is a must.
#2: Visit one of Muskoka’s provincial parks
Muskoka is a great place to visit for hiking opportunities and many of these can be found within Muskoka’s provincial parks. They are also worth a visit if you fancy a spot of mountain biking, kayaking, and wildlife watching, so if these activities are interesting to you, you should visit at least one of the parks during your stay.
Ragged Falls Provincial Park is a definite highlight as you will find one of the best waterfalls in Ontario here. Also recommended is Killbear Provincial Park due to its numerous sandy beaches and beautiful island views. Arrowhead Provincial Park has some great forest trails and fishing opportunities. And if you’re passionate about hiking, we recommend Hardy Lake Park which has trails that will take you right around the rugged shorelines of Hardy Lake.
These are just a few highlights but check out this list of provincial parks for more examples.
