Old Favourites and New Horrors at Saunders Farm

That chill in the air is a spine-tingling reminder that Halloween is approaching, and the place to be during the ghoulish season is Saunders Farm.

It’s a little known fact that Mark Saunders, the Director of Fun and co-owner of Saunders Farm (along with his wife Angela), has traveled to more
than 35 countries and lived in Europe for four years running various businesses.

In 1992, Saunders returned to his family’s strawberry farm to help his parents take it in a new direction.

Today Saunders Farm is a multiple award-winning 100 acre farm 30 minutes from downtown Ottawa. It’s best-known for its Haunting Season festival during October.

This Halloween, Saunders Farm is offering a unique fall family festival. After starting the event 24 years ago, it has grown in popularity and has become the largest event of its kind in Canada.

Although the farm has over 35 attractions and activities, the haunted hayride and hedge mazes steal the show every year. The mazes are big enough to get lost in, and it’s easy to feel like you’re in a movie walking between their gnarled walls. The haunted hayride is as terrifying as the mazes are fun. In it, you bounce through a secluded path, dodging past a chainsaw-wielding madman and rolling though decrepit ghost-towns.
While the Haunted Hayride is Saunders Farm’s most popular attraction, Saunders himself enjoys one of the newest Haunts: Shambles. Not for the faint of heart, it is a walking (or, running) haunt through a hedge maze and an antique slaughterhouse.

Saunders Farm combines meticulously restored pioneer log buildings, beautiful landscaping, attractions, local farm fresh foods, friendly customer service and pumpkins, making it a unique destination for those looking to welcome this chilly fall weather.

Daytime Haunting Season and Fright Fest will be here until November 1. For more information on hours and activities, visit http://saundersfarm.com/
