Pilar’s Picks: David Vest
According to the Cascade Blues Association, David Vest is “Blues Piano Perfection.” It’s safe to say that anyone would agree with this statement upon listening to this impressive Maple Blues Award winner. Roadhouse Revelation is David Vest’s brand new album, released on April 29. The album contains 11 catchy, upbeat tracks, blending alluring jazz and country blues ballads.
Vest was born in Alabama but today he calls Canada home. He produces an original sound as he pounds keys on the piano and completely rocks out. His first paying gig was in 1957 and by the time he opened for Roy Orbison on New Years Day in 1962, he was a seasoned veteran of Gulf Coast roadhouses. These experiences are what have inspired Roadhouse Revelation. Vest’s humble voice collaborates perfectly with his playing and he has a talented band behind him, featuring Teddy Leonard on guitar, Gary Kendall on bass and Mike Fitzpatrick on drums. Others have recognized his incredible talent, as Vest received five Muddy Awards from the Cascade Blues Association, including the Best Keyboard Player. Vest’s piano productions can be heard on Bill Johnson’s JUNO-nominated album Still Blue and on David Gogo’s 2014 JUNO-nominated record Come On Down.
Now it’s time for you to be impressed with his talent. Here’s a hit from his new album called That Happened to Me, that will get you grooving: http://bit.ly/1kppOzi.
