Over the past 10 years, information technology has grown exponentially. People are no longer tied to a single work location, email is accessible virtually everywhere and news is shared by the minute.
We have seen laptops and personal organizers evolve into all-in-one smartphones, giving users easy access to almost any information they want.
With the smartphone becoming more and more central to everyday life, mobile technology has become synonymous with convenience. A tech-savvy population is looking for applications that provide information at the tip of their fingers .
The health care sphere has provided an opportunity to help patients keep track of their medicines and improve their adherence to treatment.
On May 14, Canada’s leading healthcare organizations launched an app called MyMedRec worldwide. The mobile app is a portable up-to-date health record that allows a patient to share the information with their family, doctor, nurse, pharmacist or anyone else involved in their healthcare.
The app organizes health information in your handheld device, and can easily help with important tasks like:
- Keeping immunization and medication lists up-to-date
- Managing yours and your family’s medications
- Reminding you to take and refill prescriptions
- Email medication list to health care team
The app was developed by some of Canada’s health industry leaders as an extension of the Knowledge is the best medicine (KiBM) program. KiBM is a program that helps a person take control of their health and work with their prescriber to manage their medicines safely and appropriately.
Earlier this year, the app reached the top ten list for free iPhone and iPad apps and has been downloaded by more than 8,000 Canadians. Until now, the app was only available in Canada but responding to requests from the U.S., Ireland, Saudi Arabia and other countries the KiBM partners are making the app available to patients around the globe MyMedRec is available for free download on your iPad and iPhone devices.
