Renovating your entire home versus just moving; what should you pick?
When you’re bored of the current look of your home you typically have two choices; do you renovate your entire home or do you just move? Which should you pick, and what are the advantages of each of them?
This can be a difficult question to answer, so we’re going to cover a couple of important points to consider before you decide between moving and renovating.
Do you have an attachment to the property itself?
One of the first things to consider is how sentimental you feel towards the property itself. There are many ways for you to improve the look and feel of your home, but some of them can be a little heavy and remove some of the spirit and character that your home has. Perhaps your home is one that has a lot of history in it. Maybe it’s the property that was handed to you by a relative many years ago, or maybe it was the first home you’ve ever bought.
There’s a lot of sentimentalities attached to properties and you might want to consider how you’ll feel if you were to move. If you want to stick to the same plot of land, then we suggest renovating. However, if you don’t have much attachment to the house at all, then moving home can be a great option.
Do you have plans to move in the future?
Many people get a little wrapped up in their renovation plans despite having plans to move in the future. For instance, if you’re planning on starting a family with your partner in the next few years, then you may want to consider a home that has extra rooms that you can turn into bedrooms in the future. Similarly, you may want to consider a property with a larger garden that your kids can play in.
If you have plans to move in the future then we suggest holding off with renovations unless they’re simple. You can renovate on a budget if you stretch your money, and it can be good enough to add a little twist to your home decor so that it looks and feels different without costing a fortune.
Architects can do wonders for both your current and future home
Working with architects is a fantastic option regardless if you’re renovating or moving. They’ll help you discover what’s possible in your current home and will unlock a lot of unique options. Speaking with an architect is usually reserved for large changes to your home since that specializesin the design and construction of housing elements. Otherwise, you might want to speak with an interior designer or a regular contractor.
If you’re unsure whether you should move or renovate the entire home, an architect can help you decide based on your needs. If you’re looking to add new rooms or completely transform the way your home looks, then an architect should be the first person you speak to. With their expertise and experience, they’ll make the entire project much easier to handle.
