There is no Better Burger Joint in Ottawa Than Umbrella Burger
When you’re hungry and walking down Preston Street, the heart of Ottawa’s Little Italy, you’re faced with a difficult choice. Where am I going to satisfy my hunger? There are the classic Italian spots, but Preston Street has grown into a multicultural melting pot of cuisines that stretch all around the globe.
If you’re like me, you love to explore new cultures through food, but every so often, the humble hamburger calls you back into its warm embrace. In my search for a tasty burger, a friend told me to check out this spot called Umbrella Burger the next time I’m on Preston Street, and so, I did just that.
At Umbrella Burger, the classic diner feel of a burger, fries, and shake meets a modern twist. With limited seating both indoors and on their patio, it’s a great spot to hang out and enjoy your meal.
The menu ranges from beef to chicken and beyond meat, but I had a classic smash burger on my mind. I ordered the double burger, added bacon, all the toppings, and a side of spiced curly fries.
In my personal and professional opinion, a smash burger is the best way to enjoy a burger. The flattened beef patty gets these crispy laced edges that create a textural experience that you cannot enjoy with any other kind of burger. It also serves as the perfect vehicle for cheese and sauces without overpowering the flavour of the beef.
The double comes with two extremely large smashed patties, topped with tomato, lettuce, onion, bacon, cheese, and outstanding hot pepper relish. When I tell you that this burger was massive, I mean it. I could barely fit the first bite in my mouth, even with the burger patties smashed so thin.
Sides do cost extra, but they are worth it! The spiced curly fries were perfectly crispy, well seasoned, and served with a side of burger sauce for dipping.
All in all, the burger and fries ran me around $21.50 before tax and tip, which may seem a little expensive for a burger and fries, but when compared to any restaurant burger, it is about on par and is truly twice as good.
In fact, I’m going on record to say this is my current pick for OTTAWA’S BEST BURGER.
Ottawa has become a hotspot for burger fanatics over the past few years, and Umbrella Burger is the embodiment of this love. So the next time you’re craving a burger, can’t decide what to have for dinner, or just find yourself strolling down Preston Street with a grumbly tummy, pop into Umbrella Burger and experience it for yourself.
You can thank me later!
