Local business Hosts Fundraiser in Support of the Work of Doctors Without Borders in Gaza
On Thursday, February 29, 2024, Ottawa’s Dreammind Foundation is hosting an elegant fundraiser, Saving the Children of Gaza, at the St. Elias Conference & Banquet Centre. The event aims to provide humanitarian aid to the children affected by the conflict in Gaza through the humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders.
Doctors Without Borders (known by their French acronym MSF) is an organization committed to providing medical assistance to those in crisis, regardless of their background. In the ongoing conflict in Gaza, MSF has focused on delivering emergency medical care to children and other affected individuals. Their efforts include operating medical facilities and mobile clinics and offering essential healthcare services like surgery and trauma care.
In addition, MSF provides mental health support to help children cope with the emotional toll of conflict, as well as rehabilitation services for physical recovery. They respond swiftly to emergencies, ensuring timely medical aid reaches those in need despite the challenging circumstances. MSF’s activities in Gaza demonstrate their dedication to saving lives and alleviating suffering amid ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises.
The Dreammind Foundation, formerly Operation Ramzieh, boasts a history of philanthropy. They have provided food relief to over 280,000 Canadians during the COVID-19 lockdown and supported Beirut after the 2020 explosion.
With a goal of raising $200,000, the funds will go towards purchasing vital medical supplies for MSF, including surgical tools, first aid items, and medication. The evening will include presentations from MSF and local healthcare professionals. In addition, it will feature musical performances by artists Karl Wolf, Mandia, and Dr. Draw.
Ottawa entrepreneur Abbass Mahmoud, founder of the Dreammind Foundation, emphasizes the urgency of the situation and the call to action for humanity. The organizational committee includes healthcare experts, and passionate advocates united in their mission to help those in need.
In a world often divided, the Dreammind Foundation initiative highlights the unifying power of compassion. Regardless of nationality, aiding suffering children transcends boundaries and offers hope for a better future.
From donating auction items to volunteering time and resources, local businesses and community members are rallying behind the cause and offering support.
To date, attendees include individuals deeply touched by children’s plight in conflict zones. Sarah, a nurse at the Ottawa Hospital, recalls the harrowing stories she’s heard from colleagues who’ve worked with MSF in similar regions. Determined to make a difference, she will participate in the fundraiser and spread awareness among her peers to encourage them to join the cause.
Similarly, John, a small business owner, resonates with the foundation’s mission. Having experienced adversity in his own life, he understands the importance of extending a helping hand to those in need. Through his company’s planned sponsorship of the event, he hopes to inspire others to embrace the spirit of generosity and empathy.
A presentation from MSF will shed light on the challenges children face in Gaza, painting a vivid picture of resilience amidst adversity.
With the fabulous lineup, a strong organizing committee, and the hospitality expertise of Dreammind Group, the foundation hopes to exceed its fundraising goal and ignite a renewed sense of hope in attendees’ hearts.
Together with the people of Ottawa, they hope to demonstrate that light can prevail even in the darkest of times—and that together, they can make a real difference in the lives of children.
