A Choral Celebration – Ottawa Bach Choir’s Polychoral Extravaganza

Ottawa’s JUNO award-winning Ottawa Bach Choir (OBC) is set to host an exceptional evening for classical music fans. Founded in 2002 by the talented Dr. Lisette Canton, the Ottawa Bach Choir has built a reputation for outstanding choral performances that offer audiences a wide range of exceptional choral music. In keeping with Johann Sebastian Bach’s choral works at the heart of its repertoire, the choir also explores music from various historical periods.

On Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, OBC will present the second concert of its 23rd season, Polychoral Extravaganza, that features a joint performance with the Vancouver Chamber Choir. Attendees will enjoy the work of each choir, as well as stunning polychoral music for the double choir.

This OBC collaboration with the prestigious Vancouver Chamber Choir, directed by Kari Turunen, will present a diverse program that spans from Baroque to contemporary compositions. The concert will highlight works by Bach, Bruckner, Schütz, Tavener, and Martin, among others. The Ottawa Bach Choir will also perform Langlais’ Messe solennelle with esteemed organist Matthew Larkin, while the Vancouver Chamber Choir will showcase pieces by MacMillan, Hawley, Whittall, and Freeman.

“The OBC is thrilled to welcome the Vancouver Chamber Choir back to Ottawa and to collaborate on such an eclectic program,” says Founder and Artistic Director Lisette Canton. “Don’t miss this truly Canadian choral celebration, featuring music from the Baroque to the contemporary, by two of Canada’s exceptional professional choirs!”

The Ottawa Bach Choir has gained international acclaim through its award-winning recordings and worldwide tours. Its remarkable achievements include prestigious performances at Bachfest Leipzig, Meet in Beijing, Festival Música Santa Fe, Ottawa Chamberfest, Carnegie Hall, and beyond. The choir’s dedication to choral excellence has captivated audiences around the globe, solidifying its reputation as a cornerstone of Ottawa’s cultural landscape.
