LG Fashion Week – Spring/Summer 2012: Day Two
The second day of LG Fashion Week was met with much anticipation for the five designers entered in the Mercedez-Benz Start Up contest. The contestants Cassie Dee, Martin Lim, Travis Taddeo, Triarchy and Unttld are all new designers to the fashion scene. The Mercedez-Benz Start Up platform is an ongoing initiative to discover and support up-and-coming Canadian designers. This platform allowed all five designers to show their collection alongside the long list of established designer showing this week. The winner was the Montreal duo Danielle Martin and Pao Lim behind the label Martin Lim. An impressive collection of pink, black, almond and beige dresses and blouses fluttered as the models made their way down the runway. The collection stood out in contrast to the other four designers with blocks of colour (we’ve seen very little colour in the past two days of the spring collections) and dreamy shapes.
Fashion insiders such as Stacey McKenzie and Jay Manuel showed up on day one of LG Fashion Week and have continued to show their support for a second day. Jay Manuel’s Attitude collection for Sears was the closing showing of day two consisting of safari separates topped off by straw fedoras and headscarves. The new runway specifically for Jay Manuel’s show backfired when Supermodel Yasmin Warsame slipped and fell flat on the camouflage runway. The dry ice used during the opening of the show was likely due to the slippery runway, but Yasmin laughed the fall off and walked out again with a second outfit like the pro that she is.
Day three consists of notable designers Pink Tartan and Joe Fresh which shows are already sold out.
LG Fashion Week has named its 25th season as ‘Canada Cool’ and runs for five days (October 17th-21st) showing designers 2012 spring collections at the David Pecaut Square in Toronto.
