A Novel Fundraiser: Your Morning Coffee Helps Feed Kids

At Savvy Company, we are all about wineartisan cheese & craft beer AND we get involved in our community.  When the team at Ottawa School Breakfast Program invited us to be one of the sponsors for their new coffee program…it was easy to say ‘sign us up!’

The Community Breakfast Blend coffee is locally roasted, fair trade, organic artisan coffee that retails for $16/bag.  By purchasing one bag you can help feed 6 children a nutritious breakfast.

The Ottawa School Breakfast Program ensures that children in need have access to a healthy breakfast in a safe, supervised environment – to help each child start their day ready to learn.

We were eager to be involved in this wonderful partnership where schools, volunteers, community organizations and businesses come together to make the nutritional needs of children and youth a priority.

2 million breakfasts a year!

In 1990, the program supported 1,000 students in 25 schools. Twenty-four years later over 12,000 students in 154 schools benefit from the support of the Ottawa School Breakfast Program. That’s over 2 million breakfasts every year!

For over 20 years, the Ottawa Network for Education’s (ONFE) Ottawa School Breakfast Program has worked in all four regional school boards Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-EstConseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de L’OntarioOttawa-Carleton District School BoardOttawa Catholic School Board to provide healthy breakfasts for children in-need.

Interested in becoming involved?

In partnership with Ottawa’s own Francesco’s Coffee, ONFE launched an exciting new program called “Coffee for a Community Cause” on April 9, 2014, bringing local business leaders together to feed hungry children in Ottawa.

There were two opportunities for collaboration
1. businesses could choose to become a coffee vendor
-OR-
2. for $500 become a coffee campaign sponsor (as Savvy Company has done)
…or both!

For every bag of coffee sold, $6 is donated to the School Breakfast Program – each bag of coffee feeds 6 kids!

The coffee campaign in a few quick months has raised over $25,000 for the School Breakfast Program – that is more than 25,000 breakfasts for children in need in our community! AND so far 32 local businesses sponsored the first phase of the coffee campaign. Take a look at their Facebook page.

The Opportunity – Become a Vendor

The campaign will be re-launching on October 2nd and we have plans to expand the program to include school board sales.

For displaying and selling bags of coffee in your place of business from October 2nd, 2014 to February 2nd, 2015 you will receive the following benefits:
-Name featured on every bag of coffee sold in Ottawa Logo included on the Coffee for a Community Cause’ webpage
-Link to your website Social media exposure
