A Unique Choir on the Ottawa Musical Scene
The Ottawa Classical Choir is proud to bring to the Ottawa’s musical scene the best in classical choir music.
The Ottawa classical choir was formed 10 years ago by Ottawa’s soprano Maria Knapik and musician and Canadian conductor maestro Michel Brousseau, to enable singers from the National Capital’s region to bring to the community an opportunity to hear some of the greatest choir pieces from the classical repertoire. It is a founding member of a much larger organization, the « Societe Philharmonique du Nouveau Monde », with 4 choirs from 4 different cities regrouping 150 choristers along with a Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, they join to share their talent and passion for classical singing, offering concerts in various venues. The group also includes an international choir, which goes on tour in European countries.
With its partners, the Ottawa classical choir has produced an impressive classical music repertoire including Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Mozart’s Requiem – presented in fall 2016 in Ottawa’s Cathedral-Basilica to celebrate their 10th anniversary – Verdi’s Requiem, Haendel’s Messiah, and many more. It has had the chance to perform in the prestigious Carnegie Hall of New York.
The Ottawa Classical Choir, together with its partners, will be quite busy in this year’s celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation. On Saturday, April 29th 2017 at Ottawa’s Notre-Dame Cathedral, they perform one of Mozart’s masterpieces, the Great Mass in C minor, featuring Ottawa’s own soprano Ania Hejnar. On November 25th, 2017, they will be at Dominion Chalmer’s United Church to perform Schubert’s Mass in C major and Vivaldi’s Gloria. The spring 2018 concert will feature Puccini’s Missa de Gloria. Concerts begin at 8 pm.
Tickets are at ottawaclassiccalchoir.com as well as Books on Beechwood, Librairie du Soleil and Leading Note.
