Beaches Closed but City Splash Pads Open Until Mid-September
The summer is quite over, but Ottawa beaches have closed for the season. The closure aligns with the university-aged lifeguards returning to school.
In addition to ending supervising swimming, the city has also ended water quality testing at the four municipal beaches until next summer and advises residents not to swim at these locations or any unsupervised waterfronts.
As cooler weather moves into the region for Labour Day weekend, Ottawa’s public beaches may not be the ideal choice. However, should the temperatures rise, residents can enjoy one of the city’s 100 splash pads, which will stay open until mid-September.
In addition, the city-run indoor pools are open for families to enjoy, and the Play Free program allows children, youth and accompanying adults to swim for free on Saturdays.
