The RBC Ottawa Bluesfest is here! As the festival plays on, OLM will continue to highlight must-see performances by some of the acts that you may have not yet discovered–so Ottawa music lovers listen up! An exciting variety of bands and artists will rock the festival this year. Check out a few right now:
“Chin up my baby girl/don’t let yourself get brought down by this big old bad world,” sings Renee Landry in her infectiously optimistic 2015 single “Chin Up.” Landry draws comparisons to legendary female vocalists Etta James and Janis Joplin for her big brassy sound. Landry has a powerful voice with a stage presence to match. She’s as comfortable covering “Uptown Funk,” as she is rocking out to Neil Young. Her live show should be dynamic and fun.

Expand your understanding of what music can be by checking out this experimental Quebec collective. Fet.Nat’s performances feature absurdist theatrics and improvisation. They don’t fit into a specific genre but draw upon many musical traditions including punk and jazz with a combination of saxophone, electric guitar, drums and vocals. They’re atypical, surreal and fascinating—perfect for the adventurous music lover.
