Join in tomorrow evening as Café Ex celebrates the inventive works of A. Megan Turnbull at Ottawa’s Club SAW!
Season 17 of the Canadian Film Institute’s intimate and interactive experimental cinema series, Café Ex, continues with screenings from the works of A. Megan Turnbull, filmmaker and former Ottawa resident.
Inaugurated in 1998, Café Ex is a guest artist series featuring and celebrating the work of Canada’s most innovative and experimental filmmakers. Featured artists present their work and participate in engaging discussions with the audience.
An artist, writer, director and storyteller, Turnbull works in a variety of media, including video, animation, paper sculpture and illustration. A selection of her most notable works will be presented at Café Ex, and Turnbull will be in attendance to speak about her process and inspiration.
A notable artist in the industry, Turnbull has worked on projects with the National Film Board of Canada, the National Arts Centre, the CBC, AirCanada’s EnRoute Film Festival, Ottawa Style Magazine, Guerilla Magazine and Spins & Needles. Her work has been broadcast across Canada and internationally, but Ottawans may be familiar with one of Turnbull’s films in particular.
OttaWander (2013) is a hilarious and relatable film that serves as a survival guide for those of us living in the National Capital Region. It aims to debunk Ottawa’s bad rep by highlighting the city’s vibrant cultural scene and the creative people who help it flourish.
Café Ex begins at 7:00 p.m. on February 26th at Club SAW. Admission is on a “pay-what-you-can” basis. Be sure to arrive early as seating is limited!
