CBC Names Ottawa’s Chamber Players of Canada’s 9th CD Disc of the Week
Mozart Concertos Volume 2 is the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Disc of the Week for January 27, 2013. Each week, CBC Radio 2’s In Concert looks at new classical music releases and selects one recording that you’ll want to know about.
Artists: Janina Fialkowska, piano, with the Chamber Players of Canada
Repertoire: Mozart’s Piano Concertos No. 13 and 14
Label: ATMA Classique
The world-renowned Canadian pianist Janina Fialkowska is enjoying a vibrant career that’s filled with concerts, recordings and rave reviews. Her brand-new CD features two concertos by Mozart arranged by the composer for piano and strings. On this recording, Fialkowska renews her collaboration with the splendid Ottawa-based ensemble, the Chamber Players of Canada, led by Toronto Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Jonathan Crow. Listeners will hear Piano Concerto No. 13 in C major and Piano Concerto No. 14 in E flat major. The delicate transparency of these stripped-down orchestrations, played with great style and assurance by the Chamber Players of Canada, combined with Fialkowksa’s always elegant and sensitive playing, makes for a winning combination, writes CBC blogger Denise Ball.
The Players will celebrate the launch of their 9th CD with a reception, free and open to the public, at the offices of the Chamber Players of Canada, 51 William Street from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on January 29.
On February 11 and 12, the Chamber Players of Ottawa will offer a program called Chamber
Music Miniatures. On February 12, the concert will run from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm and will be Ottawa’s first Rush Hour concert.
