From fireworks to pony rides and live music performances, enjoy what Ottawa has to offer this Canada Day weekend. Celebrate with the family at Major’s Hill Park or visit the festivities with friends at the Parliament Hill. Make memories at neighbourhood events across the city, from the community of Dunrobin to the rural south of Manotick.
There will be three official events across Ottawa while multiple communities and organizations will be hosting their own events. Here are a handful of events happening from sunrise to sundown all across the capital:
Parliament Hill:
Parliament Hill will be hosting the main event, starting at 8:00 am, including an Algonquin blessing of the grounds, a Carillion concert and various shows featuring artists such as K’Naan, Coeur de Pirate, and more.
The entrance will be located in front of The Supreme Court of Canada (intersection of Wellington and Kent streets). Those with special needs may access the events at the Parliament Hill pedestrian entrance located at the intersection of Bank and Wellington streets.
Official programming will start on July 1st. Rehearsals will be occurring on the outdoor stage on June 30th. Admissions will be free of charge.
Major’s Hill Park:
Programming will begin on June 30th, featuring interactive arts and performances, all free of charge. Events include The Art of Henna – with Henna Designs Ink, Sankofa Drumming Circle Canada 2019, the African Canadian Head Wrap Challenge and more. Festivities will continue into Canada Day including performances by DJ Domeno, Élage Diouf, Tyler Shaw, Corneille and Tokyo Police Club.
Canadian Museum of History:
The museum will be hosting special activities and games, highlighting Indigenous culture. As well, there will be performances by performances by DJ Shub, James Jones, Angela Gladue, Silla and Rise, Bleu Jeans Bleu and Ben Caplan.
Fireworks:
Fireworks will be held around 10:00 pm on July 1 for 15 minutes, hosted by Manulife Canada Fireworks and launched at Nepean Point. There are numerous viewing spots located in Ottawa;
For those who don’t want to travel to downtown Ottawa, many Ottawa neighbourhoods will be hosting Canada Day festivities.
Greely Community Centre will be hosting Canada Celebrations including, free games, bouncy castles, pony rides and live music from 2-11pm on July 1st. Admission is free.
The Stittsville Village Association will be hosting a free, family friendly celebration, located at Sacred Heart High School. Events will include live music, a zipline, face painting by Honeydrop Body Art and food served by local restaurants. Enjoy the festivities from 1 to 9:45 pm.
The Light Up Dunrobin Canada Day, a celebration to bring the community together, will feature artists such as Kira Isabella, The Corey James Mitchell Band and more. Enjoy the events from 3-11pm at Eagle Creek Golf Club. In addition to a number of paid attractions, there will be a free firework show at 9:30pm.
The neighbourhood of Carleton Place will also have celebrations ready for Canada Day. Beginning in Riverside Park, children activities, live entertainment, food vendors and more will be held from 12:30pm to 10:30pm on Canada Day. Admission is free of charge.
Barrhaven, Osgoode, Kanata Orleans and multiple other suburbs across Ottawa will be hosting events.
The Aviation and Space Museum, TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, the Diefenbunker, Watson’s Mill, and Pinhey’s Point will also host celebrations and events for Canada Day.
