Celebrate World Football Day on the Pitch with Atlético Ottawa
Atlético Ottawa—excuse me—the undefeated Atlético Ottawa returns to the pitch this weekend at TD Place. They are currently in first place overall, and even though the season is early, there is a noticeable improvement from last season.
Atlético is tied for the top-scoring team in the league, and with five goals in his last four games, Ruben del Campo is tied for the top scorer in the league.
What can we attribute to Atlético’s success? We could start with Fernando Lopez, the club’s CEO. At the end of last season, Lopez vowed to make the team more competitive, and he has done just that. With some key signings, the team has improved on the field. And when we mention on-field play, we have to recognize the coach, Carlos Gonzalez.
The 2022 Coach of the Year has made adjustments and seems to be getting the best out of his club.
Atlético faces a big test this weekend as they take on Forge FC from Hamilton, a team that has won the Canadian Premier League championship the last two years. Atlético was recently in British Columbia and defeated another top team, Pacific FC. A win against the reigning, defending champions Forge FC would further solidify Atlético Ottawa as a force in the Canadian Premier League.
Saturday’s game will take place on what the United Nations recently declared World Football Day. And if that wasn’t enough to get one excited, hot dogs will be $2—some information to relish!
