In January, the Truckload Carriers Association announced the six division winners for their 48th Annual Fleet Safety Awards competition.
The TCA has a long commitment to incentivizing and promoting safety initiatives for its member carriers. These awards represent a long tradition of standard-setting for the industry, rewarding companies who pave a path through their exceptional dedication to safety.
The awards are purely merit-based – they are handed out to the companies with the lowest accident frequency ratios per million miles within six mileage-based divisions.

“The submissions for this year’s Fleet Safety Awards were quite impressive, and we are proud of our members who invest in safety technology and training to enhance safety on our nation’s roads” said TCA President Jim Ward. “I look forward to sharing the success of these carriers in March at TCA’s Annual Convention.”
First, second and third place prizes were awarded in each division. At the March convention, held at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN, all 18 division winners will compete for one of two grand prizes – one for carriers with a total annual mileage of less than 25 million miles, and the other for carriers with mileage greater than 25 million miles. All winners will also receive recognition at TCA’s 2024 Safety & Security Meeting on June 2-5 in Indianapolis, IN.

Challenger Motor Freight operates a Transportation Training Academy out of its headquarters in Cambridge, Ontario. The Academy provides students with the real life experiences of operating in a fully functional truck yard, giving them time with industry experts, experienced trainers, and current drivers within the company fleet.
The goal is to address the driver shortage by stocking the job market with highly qualified drivers who are committed to safety.
“Without truck drivers’ efforts, the economy would come to a standstill, and countless industries would be unable to function,” says Weatherbie. “They are everyday heroes.”
