Colour of 2018: Give Your Life the Ultra Violet Flare
Last month, colour matching company Pantone announced that Ultra Violet was the official 2018 colour of the year! This shocking, purple hue is funky and modern. Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute Leatrice Eiseman describes the colour as, “a blue-based purple that takes our potential and awareness to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”
With the positive and progressive vibes this colour exudes, you’ll surely want to incorporate it into your personal style, whether it be in your home decor, accessories or clothing. The colour is both masculine or feminine, so truly anyone can pull it off! Here are some ways you can add some Ultra Violet flare to your life.
Bold Fashion Pieces
Because the colour of the year is a blue-based purple as opposed to a warmer, red-based shade, it can be pulled off in all seasons throughout the year. In the colder months, layer a neutral outfit with an Ultra Violet scarf or hat. For a more subtle, but still bold flash of colour, try incorporating the colour into your makeup or jewelry choices. Most major nail polish brands such as Butter London, OPI and Sally Hansen have shades either exact or similar to Ultra Violet.
This hue also makes for a gorgeous way to brighten up an evening smoky eye–instead of sticking to browns or greys, use a purple eyeshadow for a pop of colour. If you have amethyst jewelry, now’s the time to whip it out–this precious stone matches the colour of the year perfectly. In the summer time, wear an Ultra-Violet graphic tee with some slim-fitting jeans or even find a bathing suit or pair of sneakers in this fun and bold colour!
Dress Your Tech
Our tech devices such as our laptops and phones are not only functional, but fashionable too since they’re always on us, so why not dress them up and make them match your style? There are tons of Ultra Violet tech accessories out there such as laptop sleeves, USB sticks, headphones and phone cases. A quick Google or Amazon search will bring up a plethora of accessories and gadgets in this colour at a variety of price points, so it’s a very simple and affordable way to incorporate the colour into your everyday life.
Pop of Colour in Your Home
Ultra Violet is not only an awesome wardrobe colour, but it can also spruce up your home decor in many ways! If your home is mostly neutral, such as white or grey, use Ultra Violet as your accent colour. Since this colour is quiet bold, let it be the star of the show such as adding a pillow or throw of this shade onto a couch. A sleek, modern lamp with a Ultra Violet lampshade or an eye catching chair would also make a great accent piece to an office or living room. You can even incorporate this colour into your kitchen–a quick online search brings up tons of cooking accessories and appliances such as tongs, ladles, spatulas and mixers in this colour.
