Cirque Du Soleil is back in Ottawa, and while you may not see the signature whimsical tents around town, they’ve transformed the Canadian Tire Centre into the perfect venue for their globe-trotting show, Corteo.
The performance follows Mauro the clown as he envisions his funeral and is whisked away by angels into an alternate dimension full of adventure while the audience members are left breathless, watching their acrobatic feats. A highlight is a little clown who is lifted and flies away, attached only to a bunch of helium-filled balloons. The thrilling audience participation and engagement of the floating balloon girl is part of what makes Cirque performances extra special.
Of course, there are more jaw-dropping acts, from aerials and acrobatics to a hilarious rendition of Romeo and Juliet; this is a show you won’t want to miss.
Families attending will want to warn their kids that beds are not indoor trampolines and chandeliers are definitely not to be swung on, despite Mauro’s dream that brings these fantastical acts to life.
Corteo had its world premiere in Montreal in 2005 and has since travelled to 20 countries on four continents. The worst part about the show is that it won’t be in Ottawa very long. You have until Sunday to catch one of the six remaining performances before the show packs up and heads to Kingston.
Whether it’s date night, family time, or a fun outing with friends, Corteo is simply exhilarating!
Corteo is at the Canadian Tire Centre until July 2, 2023.
Tickets for Corteo start at $99.75 and can be purchased at canadiantirecentre.ticketsoffice.org
