Cyber Monday Shopping

Did you skip the lines on Black Friday? Many stores in the Ottawa region took part in Black Friday sales in hopes of swaying shoppers to shop locally instead of crossing the border. Many Canadian retailers offered one-day-only deals similar to the deals found state side. For many, the annual shopping event is an opportunity to get holiday shopping done early or to score a deal on merchandise that may not go on sale until Boxing Day.

Early reports have indicated that retailers may have seen their strongest Black Friday sales ever. South of the forty ninth ShopperTrak, which counts foot traffic at malls, estimated that sales rose 6.6 percent this year, to $11.4 billion. Last year’s Black Friday sales climbed just 0.3 percent, to $10.7 billion.

However, dozens of major Canadian retail outlets are also looking to boost their sales again on Cyber Monday and analysts are expecting an abundance of deals to bring in record online sales this year.  A recent Ipsos Reid poll done for e-commerce giant PayPal said that fifty two percent of Canadians are aware of Cyber Monday, up drastically from twenty four per cent last year.

From the comfort of your own computer, you can save big on fashion items, from jewelry and handbags to shoes and clothing.  Some of the top Canadian outlets offering sales include: Amazon.ca, Apple.ca, Banana Republic, Best Buy, the Body Shop, Canadian Tire, Chapters and Indigo, Dell.ca, Future Shop, the Gap, Home Outfitters, La Senza, Lululemon Athletica, Old Navy, PetSmart, Sears, Sephora, The Source, Sport Chek, Sport Mart, Toys “R” Us, Wal-Mart and Zellers.
