Designer DIY – Chantsy’s Creative Conundrum
Chantsy from Ottawa tells us about her latest reclaimed treasure and asks our opinion on her creative conundrum:
Here’s what our readers suggest:
- ‘I vote change the shade keep the enamel’ – Melissa
- ‘I say paint it white only because it’s already been ruined with paint. You could sand off some of it too to make it look old….’ – Raise
- ‘White shade, paint inside shade gold leaf, paint base and pole black, then change the top from a metal leaf to a crystal ball … screw on top. Just saying. Nice though.’ – Anne
Eco savvy, trendy homeowners know that repurposing castaways and vintage finds are all the rage. Distressed finishes and furniture constructed of either authentic reclaimed woodor a manufactured facsimile are stealing the home decor spotlight. Everywhere you look, furniture trends are mimicking a gently used, well loved look in their designs. What’s old is new again, and the new styles are depicting an aged appearance. So, back to our creative conundrum, what do we do with this previously loved lamp?
If you are up on the latest style spotting trends reported at the Spring 2014 High Point Market, you will know that brass is back in a big way!! So long silver…hello golden glam. The High Point market is to home decor industry experts what New York is to fashion week {absolute heaven}. As the largest home furnishings industry trade show, the market is a biannual event held in the spring and fall with over 2000 exhibitors showcase their new collections over 11.5 million square feet in 180 buildings. You can bet your bottom dollar where I’ll be in October!
Style Spotters at the spring market were all over the golden glow adorning several collections as they boasted their brass throughout the exhibits. Suppliers including Currey & Company and Fine Art Lamps featured collections with dominant brass elements.
