DIY: Cut-Out Shoulder Blouse

The cut out shoulder blouse is one of this summer’s hottest essentials and fortunately it is very easy to make. The cut-out shoulder blouse is versatile as it can be worn with dress pants or with a pair of shorts for a weekend brunch, lunch or simply for a day around town! This DIY is also environmently friendly and cost effective, as all you need is an old blouse, a pair of scissors and a sewing kit- nothing you don’t already own. If you don’t already own a blouse that you want to cut up for the summer, a good place to look is a second-hand shop such as Value Village or St. Vincent De Paul (in Westboro). Just always make sure to measure twice and cut once! So cut, sew, wear and enjoy!

What you will need:

a shirt of your choice

a fabric marker

a pair of scissors

a sewing machine or kit

Directions:

1. Use a fabric marker to mark the patch you want to cut out, then cut it with the pair of scissors. Make sure you cut the patch a little smaller than you want as you will be folding a seam and sewing it later.

2. Take the piece that you’ve cut out and place it on the other arm. Trace and cut accordingly.

3. Pin and sew the edges.

Voila! You are ready for the hot summer in your new blouse! A great eco-friendly and stylish project.
