Early Season Surprises in the NHL
The NHL 2024 season has kicked off, and fans, especially those tuned in on NHL betting sites, have been treated to some truly unexpected performances. Some of those performances have been exciting while others have just been downright concerning. Today, we’ll be talking about the early season surprises in the NHL. Let’s get right into it.
Winnipeg Jet’s Undefeated Streak
There’s no better way to start this than by mentioning the Jet’s undefeated streak. Everyone from fans and foe to analysts and bettors have been treated to surprise after surprise as the Jet’s win game after game.
The last game against Seattle almost put an end to that unbeaten run, until Nikolaj Ehlers scored an OT goal. And other players like Mark Scheifele, Josh Morrissey, and Kyle Connor have shown up enough times to preserve that streak, as well.
There’s no denying that the Jets are off to a great start. But considering that it is still early days, we’ll have to wait and see how long this undefeated streak lasts.
Colorado Avalanche’s Resilience
The Avalanche is another team with a remarkable performance so far. While they are nowhere near the Jet’s unbeaten record, their performance so far has been really impressive.
It’s even more impressive when you consider the fact that a number of their key players are currently out for the count. Gabriel Landeskog is currently out with a knee injury, while Valeri Nichushkin is out with a suspension injury. And they are both not expected not expected back until November.
The team might be sitting 6th on the table, but the fact that they’ve managed to scrape out 4 wins so far, even with their current injury roster, has fans keeping hope alive.
Montreal Canadiens’ Initial Struggle
With young talents like Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, fans had hoped that the 2024/25 season would be a better one for the Canadiens. However, the team has been off to a rocky start.
They currently sit at the bottom of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, with just 2 wins from 7 games. That said, it’s still early days and it looks like rebuilding efforts are ongoing in the team. So, here’s hoping that performance picks up in subsequent games and more wins start pouring in.
Calgary Flames’ Outperformance
Currently sitting at the top of the Pacific Division in the Western Conference, Calgary Flames are surpassing everybody’s expectations. Pundits and analysts expected them to underperform, especially this early in the season, mostly because they are in something of a rebuilding phase.
However, they have played 7 games so far and lost only 1. It’s safe to say that the team is doing a lot better than the experts expected. Hopefully, they are able to keep up this impressive performance till the end of the season.
The 2024/25 season is shaping up to be a really exciting one and there are sure to be even more upsets and surprises as the game progresses. All I can say is, “bring it on!”
