Ease Into Fall with these Simple Life Hacks

Believe or not, the fall season is upon us. Though it feels like the summer totally flew by and none of us are ready to say goodbye to the sun and say hello to chillier, dark weather, there are a few things you can do to make the transition easier. Here are some simple life hacks that are sure to make the fall season smooth and enjoyable for you and your family!

Flip Your Closet

Flip your closet as soon as the cooler weather sets in to save yourself the struggle of digging around to find your fall attire. If your closet is small, organize shorts, bathing suits, sandals and other summery items in containers or vacuum-sealed bags and store away to make room for sweaters, scarves and fall boots. If you have a larger closet, bring the fall items to the front and store the summer items towards the back for easy access. Flipping you closet also allows you to clearly see what fall items your missing and need to pick up on your next shopping trip.

Explore Seasonal Foods

A fun part of fall is all the delicious food that’s in season! Stock up on fall staples like like corn, apples, sweet potatoes and squash at your local farmers’ market and also have fun trying out delicious seasonal menu items at your favourite restaurants. Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte seems to be everyone’s go to, but there is so much more out there. Check out some of the local, independently-owned restaurants and cafes in your neighbourhood for some extra-special, locally sourced dishes. This is also a great time to experiment with different fall recipes at home such as casseroles, stews, soups and other dishes that are comforting and warm.

Holiday Planning

An exciting part of fall is that it kicks off holiday season. With Thanksgiving, Halloween and various other harvest celebrations coming up over the next few weeks, now is a great time to start your holiday planning. You can bring out the fall decor for your home, start planning for a Halloween party you want to host or even start practicing some new fall recipes to impress your family with at Thanksgiving dinner! Preparing early will prevent last-minute stress and ensure you get to just fully enjoy the holidays.

Refresh Your Fitness Routine

As beach season dies down and Yoga on Parliament Hill comes to an end, it might be a good time to switch up your fitness routine to accommodate to the changing season. Register for a weekly indoor yoga class or take advantage of your neighbourhood public pool or the YMCA to get your swimming fix during the colder months. There are also tons of other community indoor sports and activities that open for registration this month that you can join.
