Get Acquainted With Ottawa’s Top Sports Teams

When it comes to sports, Ottawa is spoiled rotten. Our city is home to numerous professional and amateur sports teams, making Ottawa a four season sports destination. From professional soccer and CFL football in the summer to the Ottawa Senators in the cooler months, there is an array of local talent to support.

1. The Ottawa Redblacks, who play at the TD Place Stadium are inspired and represented through their mascot Big Joe, an adaptation of the legendary Joseph Montferrand. The Redblacks very own Henry Burris has dominated the headlines as he engineered his team's latest victory over the Edmonton Eskimos. Although Burris’ performances have been called into question during recent matches, his team’s tight-knit victory embodies their mascot, a textbook portrayal of working hard.

2) Ottawa Fury FC is Ottawa’s first professional soccer team playing during the Fall and the Spring at both the Keith Harris Stadium and the TD Place Stadium at Lansdowne Park. Although the team is only five years old, The Fury FC were last year’s Fall champions of the North American Soccer league. A key date to remember is September 2nd as they take on rivals FC Edmonton in the ‘Battle of Canada.’

3) The newest professional team to setup base in our nation’s capital is the Ottawa Champions. Although the name may be considered slightly presumptuous, at only at only two years old their nickname ‘The Champs’ hopes to serve as a mantra that we can all stand behind.

4) When the temperature begins to inevitably cool we turn our attentions to the Ottawa Senators. The Sens boast a number of honorary NHL awards and trophies and will soon push on into their 25 th season. When the Ottawa Senators are at home, The Canadian Tire Centre is often sold out, a testament to the pride and support within the Ottawa community.
