Get your green on and head out to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day
After two years of uncertainty and cancelled celebrations, what better way to kick off the reopening than by heading out to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. Local bars and pubs are getting ready to party like it’s (sort of) 2019! If you’d like to see some live music, grab a Guinness or great local craft brew, here are a few spots you can check out.
D’Arcy McGees
44 Sparks Street, Ottawa
The famous spot is named after one of Canada’s fathers of Confederation and a prominent Irish brotherhood member. D'Arcy McGees is known for its Irish fare and will be hosting two bands this Saint Paddy’s Day: Occasional Pudding from 12-3 pm the Young Bucks from 6-10 pm. No cover charge.
The Glen
6081 Hazeldon Road, Stittsville
The Glen Scottish Restaurant and Pub is known for its fish and chips and great atmosphere. Get a Guinness or a dram of scotch and drop in from 12-9 pm to see live music. No cover charge.
Heart and Crown
67 Clarence Street, ByWard Market
This pub might have four locations, but head to "the Irish pub of the Market," where this year’s party will be going late, in true Irish fashion. Live acts at the Heart and Crown include: Irish dancers from 12 to 4 pm, Brown Paper Bag from 5 to 9 pm, and Highway Sunrise from 10 pm to 2 am. The Mother McGuinty’s stage will feature Brandy N Port from 12 pm to 4 pm, the Valley Mountain Duo with Ben Rutz from 5 pm to 9 pm, and the Shawn Tavenier Trio from 10 pm to 2 am.
The Lafayette
49 York Street, ByWard Market
Ottawa’s oldest tavern, established in 1849, The Laff will celebrate Saint Patrick's Day with two live bands: The Will Cook Duo from 3 pm-7 pm and Ilvekyo takes the stage from 9 pm-2 am. As always, there is no cover charge.
Overflow Brewing Company
2477 Kaladar Avenue, Ottawa
Ottawa is a city well known for its craft beer, and Overflow Brewing makes the a-list. The brewery’s tap hall doubles as a great live music venue. Head there to catch the duo East Coast Experience. Tickets are $20.
Calabogie Brewing Company
105 Schneider Road, Kanata
Kanata’s Calabogie Brewing will be having a cask party with Green Beer and Irish-themed menu choices. Reservations are recommended.
Rideau Carleton Casino
4837 Albion Road
Catch kilt-wearing The Town Pants at Rideau Carleton Casino, and get an Irish beverage and T-shirt included with the price of your ticket. Doors open at 7 pm. Tickets $37.11.
Banditos
683 Bank Street, Ottawa
Mexico is going green for Saint Patrick’s Day! Banditos proclaimed that their margaritas would be green in the spirit of Ireland’s holiday and that their famous patio will be open.
The Barley Mow
1541 Merrivale Road location
The Barley Mow will be hosting a Saint Patrick’s Day show with the local acoustic group Capo5ive.
Glebe Central Pub
779 Bank Street, Ottawa
The Glebe Central Pub will be hosting live music from 3 pm to 11 pm with guests Jeff Graham, Chris Zimmerman, and Matt Oliver. Wear something green and grab a craft beer or Guinness! Entry is free.
Moscow Tea Room
527 Sussex Drive, Ottawa
If you can’t make it out on Thursday, consider heading to the Moscow Tea Room on Friday. The classy Sussex lounge is hosting a fundraiser for Ukraine. 100% of the sales from the night will be donated to help Ukrainians.
