Hogman-Eh! is a New Year’s Eve Celebration Unlike any Other!
You don’t have to be Scottish to partake in The Scottish Society of Ottawa’s highly anticipated annual Hogman-Eh! New Year’s Eve celebration. This year’s Hogman-Eh! promises to be more sophisticated as the event takes things to the next level in the spectacular setting of the Infinity Centre. Attendees can look forward to more space, excellent food, and an upscale VIP experience.
Described as the best New Year’s experience in Ottawa, this lively event promises something for all ages, with two connected parties for the price of one!
Tickets are just $45 per person. Kids under 12 are free and welcome to stay for as long as they can last! VIP guests have the option of paying $75 for reserved seating close to the main stage and a complimentary beverage or $125 for reserved seating in the VIP seating area close to the stage and a three-course meal, with two of the courses served.
The afternoon and early evening festivities start with a family-friendly atmosphere and the Hall of Origins, where families can trace their ancestry or let the kids enjoy the dedicated kids’ zone.
Any good Celtic cèilidh includes traditional Celtic music, highland dancing, and the unmistakable sound of bagpipes. Local tenor John Young will begin the formal entertainment by singing a medley of treasured Scottish songs. He will be followed by local Highland Dance schools, which will demonstrate their students’ impressive talents. Then the pace picks up with Cape Breton fiddler Ernie Fraser.
The fun comes to a crescendo at 7.00 p.m. when the RCAF pipe band makes their grand entrance to help everyone count down to the arrival of the New Year in Scotland. The bagpipers and a balloon drop will signal the New Year in Scottish style and on Scottish time!
Guest will have a second chance to celebrate the New Year with the pipe band when they play a second set later in the evening, and they will reappear to ring in the New Year at midnight. The music continues with Brandy’ N’ Port, a local Ottawa band who knows how to play all the favourite Celtic songs.
The headliners for the night are the high-energy Celtic rock band Devil’s Brigade (formerly American Rogues), named after the iconic WWII special forces unit comprised of Canadian and American soldiers.
The festivities also include a single-malt whisky bar and some good food. Guests can purchase a voucher at the door for $25, which includes a tasty main and salad, dessert, and tea or coffee to be prepared on-site by Dhruvees restaurant, whose Asian-style food is familiar to previous Hogman-eh attendees.
The celebration will be an unforgettable night of celebration, culture, and community for the whole family.
