Question: I never know what to wear on a date. Help!

Answer: Date night can be stressful for many reasons but the underlying issue is that you want to make a good impression. Similar to that of a job interview, you’ll want to dress to suit the occasion (and location) and you’ll want to wear an outfit that gives some insight into who you are as a person. Don’t go out and buy an outfit that you’d normally never wear because you will feel uncomfortable in it and that will come across as not being into your date.  Instead, find an outfit that accentuates your favourite body part – legs, arms, or slim waistline – and arrive with a good attitude. The goal is to let the clothes do the talking before you say ‘hello’.

Question: I tend to rely on my little black dress (LBD) for most occasions as a go-to outfit. What can I pair with an LBD for my upcoming holiday parties?

Answer: Aside from attitude and show-stopping glamour? Take inspiration from Angelina Jolie and Blake Lively who always arrive to an event with statement jewellery, sky-high stilettos and a dramatic gown. If you’re walking the red carpet, pick a bold pair of earrings or an oversized necklace since most photos are usually taken from the waist up.  If you plan to wear the dress more than once, make sure you switch up your make-up so you have two distinctive looks.

RED ALERT: WHY WE LOVE IT?

Wearing red broadcasts confidence because it is the sexiest shade.

HOW TO WEAR IT

Turn heads in red separates or rock a frock with black accents. Try a leather belt or tights – to toughen it up a bit. Can’t summon the courage to slip on alluring red threads? Try a big, bold splash of cherry red in a pair of pants or an overcoat.

Colour Crash Course

Red makes a chic combo with warm metallics or neutrals. It also plays well with other hues that contain blue notes, such as purple or fuchsia.
