The Inside Out film festival is hosting a free outdoor drive-in film series to celebrate capital pride in Ottawa.
Inside Out is Canada’s largest 2SLGBTQ+ film festival and the single largest promoter and distributor of 2SLGBTQ+ content in Canada. Founded in 1991, Inside Out is dedicated to developing, presenting, and promoting 2SLGBTQ+ content that showcases and supports the broad diversity of voices and identities within our communities, and ensuring that authentic and positive representation of 2SLGBTQ+ people is central in that content.
To coincide with Capital Pride, the free drive-in films are being screened in Ottawa on Thursday, August 26 and Friday, August 27 at the RBC Festival Field Drive-In, Wesley Clover Parks.
Executive Director Lauren Howes says, “All of the films are quite different. The thinking behind the programming was bringing the best of the fest, the festival gems from the digital festival of this past spring together into one festival.” She continues, “We are happy to be doing the drive ins because we can still make connections with the audience which is really important”.
Annually, Inside Out presents the 11-day Toronto LGBT Film Festival (Toronto’s third-largest festival after TIFF and Hot Docs), a four-day festival in Ottawa, a year-round screening and event series at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, and innovative professional development initiatives including the world’s only 2SLGBTQ+ Feature Film Financing Forum.
To coincide with Capital Pride, the Inside Out x RBC Drive-In Tour will wrap up in Ottawa. Both evenings will showcase feature films before they hit theaters, including the Inside Out 2021 Best Canadian Feature film award winner Fanny: The Right to Rock by Bobbi Jo Hart, and Gitta Gsell’s Beyto.
