Introduce Your kids to Rugby with a Free Youth Ticket to the July 6th Canada vs. Scotland Match

This July, TD Place Stadium in Ottawa will buzz with excitement as Canada’s Men’s Rugby Team faces off against Scotland, one of the world’s best rugby teams.

Rugby Canada is ensuring that this highly anticipated sporting event is accessible to all school-aged children in the Ottawa region. Yes, that’s right, they are offering free youth tickets for the match between Canada and Scotland.

Here’s why you should seize this opportunity and bring your family to the stadium for a day of thrilling sports and fun.

The Canada vs. Scotland game is a rare opportunity for young sports enthusiasts to watch high-level international rugby. Scotland’s rugby team—stars of the Netflix docuseries Six Nations: Full Contact, is renowned globally, and seeing them play against our Canadian squad will be a spectacle of skill, strategy, and sheer athleticism. It’s a fantastic chance for kids to witness the intensity and excitement of rugby up close.

Hockey might be Ottawa’s reigning sport, but rugby — the padless cousin to Canada’s second favourite sport, American football — is a faster game that combines the strategy and physical contact of football with the fast pace of soccer. Beyond the field, rugby teaches valuable life skills like teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

Rugby Canada is hosting a variety of free rugby festivals and events in the week leading up to the big game. More details will be announced soon, but you can bet that these activities will be designed to introduce kids to rugby in a fun and engaging way.

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, an athlete himself, is a big supporter of the July 6th Rugby Canada promotion targeted at engaging with kids. He explains, “The aim of this initiative is to break down the barriers to sports participation, to inspire children and youth, to introduce more people to the sport of rugby, and to create a lasting legacy in Ottawa that promotes rugby and encourages kids to engage in physical activity.”

New England Free Jacks and Canada’s Men’s Rugby Team Player Conor Keys says, “This is an exciting opportunity for any kid to go watch a rugby game.” Keys hopes the match will “inspire not only school-aged children but also their parents to get involved with and watch rugby.”

Keys’ parents are from Scotland, and it was during a match between Canada and Scotland at Twin Elm Park in 2006 that he was first introduced to the sport. The Stittsville native says, “Getting to play rugby in my hometown after being away for a while is an incredible feeling. I can’t express how much it means to me.”

Mayor Sutcliffe described the match announcement as very exciting news and said, “I hope you all are looking forward to cheering on Conor and his teammates in their big match against Scotland in July.”

The mayor is right; it is exciting. The chance to see Canada’s Men’s Rugby Team compete against a powerhouse like Scotland does not come around often, and with free tickets for kids, it’s an affordable way to enjoy top-tier sports.

The additional rugby events make this an enriching experience for families and young fans. It promises to be a highlight of the summer in the National Capital Region, offering a thrilling game and a week full of fun, learning, and excitement for kids of all ages.

To get a free youth ticket (with the purchase of one ticket for an accompanying parent or adult), use the online form to register for your free ticket(s), after which you will be sent information from Rugby Canada on how to redeem them.
