Lazypants: What’s Your After?
Whether it is when you first roll out of bed in the morning or when you get home from a long day at work, nothing sounds better than throwing on a comfy pair of sweatpants. Right?
I’ll admit it. I consider myself a somewhat-fashionista by day and a sweatpants addict by night. I try to look put together when I leave the house, but when I return? Sweats. After work? Sweats. After dinner? Sweats. After a run? Sweats. I think you get the picture.
“We are for the ‘after,’” says Adam Bledin, founder of Lazypants. “So for after work, after school, after play, after whatever you’re doing. Everybody has an after.”
I couldn’t agree more—especially when the after means snuggling up and eating ice cream while watching a rom-com (I’m not letting you know how often this happens).
“It’s about being comfortable and free when you’re done everything else and all of your responsibilities. It’s your daily vacation,” says Bledin.
Lazypants are not only a comfortable, stylish way to experience your lazy time, but they are also a great way to show some Canadian spirit. Bledin and his team recently moved manufacturing from Turkey to Toronto.
“It is really important to me. I am a loyal Canadian and I feel responsible. I want to create the jobs. It is like I feel social responsibility,” says Bledin.
Bledin says he also feels the responsibility to give back to the community that has been so supportive of his efforts. The Lazypants team supports ovarian cancer research and Adam says he hopes to pair up for an event with SickKids Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
Between a big move and community outreach, Bledin also puts a lot of his attention on the Lazypants products themselves, including his new lines Lazyman, Lazykids and Lazylegs.
“We are putting a lot of money into our production and our research and development to make sure the people get exactly what they want and a great quality piece,” says Bledin. “We put a lot of time into the fabric, into the design and a lot of time into the washing and the knitting.”
Bledin says he is hoping all the effort will mean he can soon take distribution worldwide. But for now, he is immersing himself in all the experience he can get—and loving every minute!
“I love this industry,” says Bledin. “I love the hustle of selling. I love the hustle of getting our stuff there on time, getting our stuff made, making the pattern, fabric and design. It’s almost like stock broking but in cotton.”
Guess what, Adam; I am thankful you love the hustle—because I love your Lazypants!
