Meet Your New BFF

BoJangles is an awesome little eight year-young Chihuahua. Despite his epilepsy, he loves everyone and everything. BoJangles is available for adoption through Sit With Me and will be at the Greenbank location on Saturday.

Looking to bring a new furry member into your family? Many animal rescues are gearing up for National Adoption Weekend, an event that will be held across Canadian Pet Valu locations. Adoptable animals from local Ottawa rescues will be in attendance in hopes of finding their forever homes.

Meet Misty, a seven year-young puppy mill survivor. She is a gentle soul who loves cuddling and playing with squeaky toys. You can meet Misty at the Kanata location at noon on Saturday. She is available for adoption through Freedom Dog Rescue.

Held from April 15 to 17, National Adoption Weekend lets local rescues have the opportunity to meet with the Ottawa community as well as gain more awareness for their work and the animals they rescue. Many of these rescues are volunteer-run and rely entirely on donations to cover vet bills and auxiliary costs.

Rescue Events will be held simultaneously at multiple Pet Valu locations across Ottawa.

Gizmo is a nine year-young cuddle bug who loves nothing more than being around people and playing in the snow. A belly-rub enthusiast, this Bichon Frisé doesn’t let his epilepsy get in the way of living life to the fullest! Gizmo will be at the Kemptville location and is available for adoption through Ottawa Dog Rescue.

Who to check out:

Freedom Dog Rescue is non-profit, volunteer-run dog rescue based in Ottawa and its surrounding area. They take in dogs of all-breeds and provide them with temporary foster homes until their forever-family is found.

Freedom Dog will be at the Pet Valu Casselman, Kanata Centrum and Gloucester locations on the 16th and at Pet Valu Southgate on the 17th.

Ottawa Dog Rescue is a foster-based, all-breed dog rescue dedicated to finding at-risk dogs in Ottawa. Along with rescuing and re-homing dogs, they aim to teach people responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying/neutering.

Ottawa Dog Rescue will be at the Kemptville location on the 16th.

Located in Ottawa, Sit With Me has been helping dogs across Ontario and Quebec. They take in and foster shelter dogs that deserving a second chance. Sit With Me will be at the Beechwood and Greenbank locations on April 16.

Rocky Road Rescue takes in Northern dogs and dogs from kill-shelters to give them a deserving second chance.

Rocky Road will be at the Elmvale and Smithfalls locations on both the 16th and 17th.

Leo is a two year-old lab-mix who loves to go on walks. Loyal and sweet, Leo is a very intelligent boy who lives for cuddles. Leo is available for adoption through Rocky Road Rescue.

Many of these rescues will have volunteer-run services, such as nail trims or dog washes, with all proceeds going toward the animals in their care. Be sure to check out their Facebook pages to learn more about each rescue and their events.
