Ottawa has a thriving business scene and we’re all about to get a better taste of it with the launch of the docu-series, Creatorland. Created in partnership by Bell Media & Ottawa-based award-winning digital media agency Wingd Inc., the series’ goal is to celebrate women and ethnic minorities’ contribution to Ottawa’s business scene, the unique and important perspective and creativity they bring to it, as well as highlight the challenges they face in this often very white and very male sector.
Spearheaded by three Ottawa-based women, Wingd Inc. CEO and series producer Zainab Muse, director Amen Jafri, and host Nickie Shobeiry, the series will showcase five young Ottawa entrepreneurs of different walks of life and cultural backgrounds as they make their way through the competitive business world.
Producer Zainab Muse shared with us the excitement of working with Jafri and Shobeiry on the project saying, “I truly enjoyed getting to work with two incredibly strong women. They taught me so much about myself and the incredible bond we’ve built since then has been one of the greatest gifts – we can rely on each other 100% and trust that we would always be there for one another both professionally and personally.”
On what viewers can expect from the groundbreaking series, producer Muse emphasizes Creatorland’s focus on diversity. “The audience can expect to see diversity on screen, understand its importance in our society today, and even celebrate it,” she says.
It's important that women and ethnic minorities see themselves on screen and Muse hopes the series can be a positive influence. “I hope that people feel inspired to go out there and push the envelope – especially those aspiring to become entrepreneurs,” she says, “I want people to believe that they can exceed beyond what they believe they are capable of.”
The official Creatorland screening is on Thursday, Nov. 15th at 6:30 PM at the Mayfair Theatre and will feature a cocktail reception and Q&A with the starring entrepreneurs. Tickets are available here.
