New Year’s resolutions for 2021

Our time in the year 2020 is slowly coming to a close. 2021 is fast approaching and as the New Year's bells prepare to ring, the question on everyone's mind becomes what New Year's resolutions everyone will choose this season.

Some New Year's resolutions are constant from year to year but a few are growing trends and newer to 2021. Choosing a resolution means finding something that fits your lifestyle and is simple and challenging enough to keep you on track for the next 365 days.

Quit smoking

Smoking is hazardous to your health and puts harsh smoke and contaminants into the environment. Instead of settling into another year with a bad habit on your back, many people in 2021 are choosing to focus on ending their nicotine habit.

This isn't easy for anyone and seeking support from friends and family will help you keep your resolution for the year. Gather a team of support around you that will help keep you accountable every day.

Do yoga and meditate

Yoga has rapidly become a new health trend over the past few years and centuries of tradition in many countries can attest to its benefits. Whether you decide to try this exercise in the comfort of your own home or you join a yoga class, this is a great way to get some exercise and help improve your health.

Meditation can be combined with yoga or done on its own. Either way, it's an excellent method to unwind and refocus especially in a year that has so much chaos in it. By resolving to meditate everyday people are choosing to spend time focusing on their mental health.

Leave your phone

Let's face it: nearly everyone is addicted to their devices. In a time where face to face connection is rare, being connected to our phones can feel like a necessity. But disconnecting from our phones for an hour or more a day is a great way to connect to others in our lives or focus on your health.

Prioritize family

We're all a little closer, by choice or necessity, to our families these days. But spending time with them and prioritizing them is still a rare skill. Many people in 2021 are resolving to prioritize their families and spend some quality time with them. Instead of just allowing each day to go by, focus on being intentional with the time given to you and your family and put them first during this next year!

Find time for yourself

In the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, it can be hard to make time for yourself and the things that you enjoy. Instead of putting it off one more time, in 2021 spend time reading your favorite book, checking out the Australian casino's review, or even just sitting in a bubble bath each day to relax. Everyone has a different way to approach self-care so invest in yourself this year and make time to put in an effort for yourself and your self-care.

Get involved with a charity

Giving to others instead of yourself is one way to give back to your community and feel good about your impact on the world! Choose a charity that matches your mission and that you believe in, and seek out any way to get involved. This probably won't be glamorous jobs but you'll be helping the charity and your community.

Be social

Making your friends a priority is a big New Year's resolution of 2021. With the lockdowns happening around the world and the on-going pandemic it can be hard to continue making quality connections with friends. The advent of social media and new technology has kept us connected even if we're not meeting in the bars every night.

Societal awareness

Being away from issues in society is one thing but acting on that awareness is another thing entirely. In 2021, pushing yourself to comment and get involved to help improve society is an excellent resolution to make and keep during the next year. This can mean commenting on social media posts by active society groups or getting involved in protests or other activities.

Go a day without your car

Cars have been contributing to global warming and increasing pollution. You can help cut back on this pollution even if it's just a little, by going without your car for a day! Resolve to make time this year to use public transportation or carpool with friends to get to work.

Focus on learning something new

There's tons of information at the end of your fingers or the click of a button. Instead of idly scrolling through social media, make a focused effort to learn about a new subject. Dig into TedX podcasts, enroll in free online courses, or check out books from your local library that are focused on a particular topic. Push yourself to learn and master a new topic or skill throughout this next year.

Read

Let's face it: it's a lot simpler to just pick up your phone or turn on the TV on any given night. Instead, focus on spending time each day reading a book. This is a great way to stimulate your mind as well as possibly teach you something. You can visit your local library or order books online and have them delivered right to your door.

Takeaway

2021 is a year of promise and as we bid farewell to 2020, we can all latch on to new resolutions to better ourselves and our world in the upcoming year. Instead of spending more time online or focused entirely on just passing the time, 2021 is a year to be more intentional with community, self, and family.

Resolutions are only as strong as the people making them! If you're making a New Year's resolution, be sure to budget time to make it happen. Achieving your goals takes effort and a team of supporters surrounding you who can help keep you accountable throughout your journey. Start 2021 on the right track with a clear goal, a team of supporters, and everything you need to make your dreams a reality!
