A new type of dinner theatre recently took the stage in Ottawa’s West-End to help celebrate all of the exciting changes the city is experiencing.

“Ottawa is on the cusp of a major transformation,” says Sam Mizrahi President of Mizrahi Developments, who is bringing 1451 Wellington, a new landmark building to the intersection of Wellington West and Island Park Drive. “With several major urban redevelopment projects in the works, the pending arrival of a new LRT, and influx of young people and new creative industries, we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate 2017 with community members who are contributing to and embracing all these changes.”

Mizrahi’s end-of-year themed event was dubbed a “2017 News Nightcap” and was hosted inside the fully-appointed Presentation Gallery for 1451 Wellington. While actors re-enacted top news stories from 2017, guests were treated to thoughtfully crafted food and wine pairings curated by one of the world’s best Sommeliers, Veronique Rivest, owner of Soif Wine Bar. “Canadians are wine lovers,” said Rivest. “Wine makers from around the world love coming to this country, because we are open minded and curious.”

Rivest took Mizrahi’s guests on a journey around the world with an all-white theme and shared her expertise. The tasting kicked-off with a Henry of Pelham sparkling from Niagara Peninsula that was paired with mini fish tacos and crisp vegetarian rice paper rolls. If you are looking to serve sparkling wine for the holidays, Rivest stressed it does not need to be served only as an aperitif. “Sparkling wine is one of the greatest food wines in the world, because of its low alcohol content, high acidity and the fact that it does not have a lot of oak. Whenever in doubt, usually sparkling wine is the answer.” It’s also a great way to bring home-grown flavour to the dinner table “we have the perfect climatic conditions in Canada for world-class sparkling wines,” she added.

The wines that followed included a Grüner Veltliner from Austria, a classic Southern White Burgundy from France, and a dessert wine from the Tokaji region of Hungary. Accompanying canapés by Tulips and Maple ranged from light and fresh root vegetable flavours to rich and creamy bites.

The evening’s entertainment also included a toast to 2017’s most memorable headlines with theatre performances by Ottawa’s Improv Embassy. Guests were asked to share their favourite news stories from 2017 which resulted in improv sketches that poked fun at Ottawa’s swelling tech sector, Ottawa’s La Machine and Justin Trudeau’s selfies and socks.

Located at the crossroads of Westboro and Wellington West, Mizrahi’s1451 Wellington is walking distance from the city’s newest and hottest restaurants, boutique retail and fitness studios. The residence will be Ottawa’s first true luxury condominium experience, designed with a superior standard of interior finishes. The lifestyle also includes valet services and five-star hotel-inspired amenities. The project was designated as a landmark building by Ottawa’s Urban Design Review Panel and in 2017 was awarded Condo of The Year by The Greater Ottawa’s Homebuilder’s Association.
