#OLMExplores – Chinatown

All photos courtesy of Arizona Lanceleve.

Last week I spent the afternoon exploring Chinatown with a good friend. We walked down the streets looking at all the different shops and houses. A lot of buildings were painted with beautiful designs and animals, there was always something interesting to see. Most of the shops and signs all had a similar colour pattern of red, yellow, and blue, which I found quite interesting. The colours showing up all over the area made it feel like a very welcoming community.

We stopped for food at Honey Town on Somerset and decided to be adventurous and try something new. If you are not someone who likes to try new things then this spot won’t be your cup of tea.

The Kowloon Supermarket at Somerset and Arthur St has just about everything you can think of, from live fresh fish to fruits and vegetables you have never even heard of to all the treats and snacks that you wouldn’t normally find in the Canadian grocery aisles.

One of my favourite things about Chinatown is that it doesn’t fully feel like you are still in Ottawa. You get a taste for a different culture without having to travel too far from home.

If you’re looking from something new to explore and see, also get a taste of a different local vibe, Chinatown is the place to go. For a taste of that vibe right from your seat, flip through the slideshow below.
