Ottawa Tourism, Invest Ottawa and Shaw Centre team up to launch #ThinkOttawa
Ottawa is about to make a name for itself on the global map with the launch of ThinkOttawa! Three of the city’s biggest economic development organizations, Ottawa Tourism, Invest Ottawa and Shaw Centre, have just announced the initiative which strives to attract major global and regional conventions and conferences to the National Capital.
ThinkOttawa will support local industry, academic, government and non-profit ambassadors in all fields, such as medicine, politics, and more, to bring the conventions and conferences to the city through bid development, marketing, promotional materials, venue and accommodation selection, partnership support and financial aid. With over 1,900 tech companies and 400 organizations based in Ottawa, global conferences and events being hosted here creates opportunity for Ottawa’s many change-makers to be recognized, make connections and share their expertise and knowledge on an international stage. The initiative also promises to further expand tourism in the city as convention delegates are likely to take in Ottawa’s many sites and attractions like festivals, museums, heritage sites and more while in town.
Representatives from all three partnering organizations, Ottawa Tourism, Invest Ottawa and Shaw Centre, excitedly shared their goals and hopes for the program at the ThinkOttawa official launch event this week.
“We are thrilled to partner with Shaw Centre and Invest Ottawa to help support local businesses in bringing their meeting, event, or convention to Ottawa,” says Ottawa Tourism President and CEO Michael Crockatt. “Through ThinkOttawa, we not only assist and engage our local community champions, but also raise our city’s international profile and ultimately strengthen the visitor economy in Ottawa.”
ThinkOttawa’s work with local professionals and academics has already helped secure various events that will be hosted in the city over the next few years including the International Convention of Firefighters Association scheduled for 2022, the Annual Meeting of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology scheduled for 2020, and the International Metropolis Convention 2019 taking place later this year.
