Canada will be represented on the international stage this year at the Miss World competition in China by newly crowned Cynthia Menard. The 17 year-old Ottawa native won the title of Miss World Canada on Saturday, July 22nd in Toronto against 56 other contestants from across the country.
The competition took place over the week of July 16th – July 22nd, where delegates completed fitness tests, participated in a fashion show and competed in a preliminary event at Toronto’s The Great Hall.
The theme of this year’s pageant was “Beauty with a Purpose”. Each delegate was responsible for sharing their own purposeful project. Menard’s goals were expressed as being charity and volunteer driven with a strong focus assisting communities affected by natural catastrophes.
Due to her lack of experience with the pageant world, Menard expressed great surprise at the big win.
“This has been my first pageant and to be completely honest, I did not expect to win at all! Most of the girls who competed have already done many pageants. Even though I did not expect to win, I feel blessed for the entire experience and am extremely happy to have received the title of Miss World Canada.”
Menard will compete in China in November for the title of Miss World 2017.
