Pilar’s Picks: The Head and The Heart

This band is sure to capture your head and your heart, literally. The Head and The Heart originated in Seattle and met one another at their local pub, Conor Byrne. They were constantly trying to get customers’ attention and approval. In 2011 they released an album through Sub Pop, their hometown record label, when something surprising occurred. The Head and The Heart’s music began reaching people in the US and all over the world. The album became one of Sub Pop’s most successful releases in years!

The up and coming band demonstrates immense courage as they jumped head first into songwriting, recording and performing. Members of the band Jonathan Russell and Josiah Johnson formed the core songwriting partnership, smoothly balanced by drummer Tyler Williams, keyboardist Kenny Hensley, vocalist and violinist Charity Rose, and bassist Chris Zasche. The band has and continues to experience and travel the world, which led to big ideas incorporated in their newly released album: Let’s Be Still. An album that portrays the growth and experiences of the miraculous band that didn’t even exist just four years ago! Their passion is evident through their music. One of my favourites is Another Story:

“I’ll tell you one thing

We ain’t gonna change love

The sun still rises

Even through the rain”

A powerful stanza proclaiming that even through the toughest times the sun stills shines. To me, this means that you can always extract something positive especially with loving, supporting people in your presence.

Good news for us in Ottawa — the band is making its way to the Bronson Centre, located at 211 Bronson Avenue, on March 27, 2014. Doors will be opening at 7 p.m. and the shows will begin at 8 p.m. Buy your tickets here: http://bit.ly/1fCoqtm.
