Sports in Ottawa

Sporting events have been held in Ottawa, Canada's capital, since the 19th century. Ottawa is home to the NHL's Ottawa Legislators, the CFL's Ottawa Redblacks, the Pioneer League's Ottawa Titan, as well as the Canadian Premier League's Athletic Ottawa. Ice hockey

The inaugural ice hockey game for the Stanley Cup was played in Ottawa in 1893. During the first quarter of the twentieth century, Ottawa teams dominated the sport, winning 11 Stanley Cups between 1903 and 1927. The club folded in 1934, during the Great Depression, and migrated to St. Louis, where it became the St. Louis Eagles. In 1992, the Senators rejoined the National Hockey League. Football in Canada

The Ottawa Rough Riders were among the greatest sports teams in North America, having been created in 1876 and participating in the Canadian Football League. The Rough Riders dissolved after the 1996 season, ending 120 years of professional football in Ottawa. Despite winning nine Grey Cups over the course of its long history, the team was forced to shut down due to poor team performance, low turnout, and even worse management.

Rowing

The Ottawa Rowing Club agreed to offer equipment and teachers to help the University of Ottawa establish a rowing prgramme in 1949. During the 1950s and 1960s, however, the Ottawa Rowing Club experienced a decline. The City of Ottawa agreed in 1967 to reconstruct the piece of the ancient shell house that still survives after seizing Club due to financial concerns, but chose to destroy the other half due to its deteriorating state. The Club had only nine members that year, and its dissolution was being considered.

Basketball

In 2019, the Ottawa Blackjacks will debut as a professional basketball club. In 2020, they will compete in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. (CEBL). From 2013 to 2014, the Ottawa SkyHawks were a pro basketball team in the Canadian National Basketball Association. They ceased operations in 2014

Curling

Every year since 1956, the OVCA Ottawa Men's Bonspiel has been hosted in Ottawa. (sometimes referred to as the "Cities of Ottawa bonspiel") The Ottawa Curl Club, established in 1851, is one of the oldest known curling clubs.

Soccer

For nearly a century, soccer has been enjoyed in Ottawa. Young professional, youth development, and adult leisure leagues are all available in Ottawa. The most well-known team was the semi-professional Ottawa Fury Women for women. From 2005 through 2013, the Ottawa Fury competed in the semi-professional Premier Development League.The Ottawa Fury FC, a professional men's team founded by the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment corporation in 2014, operated in the United Soccer League's second level until its collapse in 2019.
