The Most Celebrated Cantatas of Bach
The Consolation of the Heart concert is coming to Ottawa February 24 at Dominion-Chalmers United Church. Funds generated from ticket sales will assist Music and Beyond’s early music concerts and young people’s initiatives. The line-up is miraculously talented and includes Emma Kirkby, Daniel Taylor, Rufus Müller, Daniel Lichti and The Theatre of Early Music. Special guests include The Capital Chamber Choir and The Nepean High School Chamber Choir.
Emma Kirkby is one of the greatest sopranos of our time and has collaborated musically with Daniel Taylor throughout her career.
“This is absolutely a not-to-miss concert”, expresses Music and Beyond’s Artistic Director Julian Armour. “Emma Kirkby is, without question, one of the supreme voices of our time. To hear her live is to get a brief glimpse of what heaven might be like. And I don’t think I need to tell anyone in Canada that Daniel Taylor and the Theatre of Early Music belong among the very best early music performers on the international scene.”
The concert will include two of the most celebrated Cantatas by J.S. Bach: BWV 23 (Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn) and BWV 78 (Jesu, der du meine Seele).
Acclaimed as one of Canada’s finest concert and oratorio singers, Daniel Lichti continues to build on his successful reputation with major choral and symphonic concert organizations worldwide. Rufus Muller, the English-German tenor was “…easily the best tenor I have heard in a live Messiah” according to the N.Y Times.
This event is truly something special and the audience is said to be in for a treat. Tickets can be purchased before February 24 at several area locations including CD Warehouse, Compact Music, The Leading Note, Books on Beechwood and the Music and Beyond office.
