The KCC is hosting various cultural events this weekend to celebrate ‘Seollal,’ Korean Lunar New Year. Seollal is the most celebrated national holiday in Korea. This year Seollal is on Sunday, January 22, 2023.

The Groove Junkies are not your everyday “Bar Band Fare.” Before Covid, they were widely regarded as Ottawa’s Premier “FM” dance band. A visually stunning dance piece, Sydancers explores the impacts of the Quebec Bridge disaster of 1907, which killed 33 Mohawk ironworkers from the community of Kahnawake. Using both contemporary and traditional practices, a direct descendant of this disaster, Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo, brings the past to the present in a way that will enthrall and resonate with audiences while deepening their understanding of Indigenous people’s history.

Canto Sentimento Strings was founded in 2006 as the need for string music for formal events grew in Ottawa. The various ensembles are made up of string players who are alumni of or are currently studying at the University of Ottawa in the music department and performance division. All the musicians have been performing for many years, playing in various orchestras and string ensembles in the Ottawa area and worldwide.
