Five bright tulip chairs stand out in the departure lounge at the Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Canada recently unveiled these unique chairs. The tulip is a significant icon to Canadians and Netherlanders alike.

Designed by Dutch industrial designer Marco Manders, the tulip seat is an extremely comfortable chair and a perfect representation of an actual tulip. The fully rotational chair closes automatically when you get up, providing a functional, fun, and symbolic addition to the Ottawa International Airport.

Each spring, the Netherlands provides thousands of tulips for Ottawa’s Tulip Festival, a symbol of friendship between the two countries.
