Every year the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show features bigger names, more celebrities and show stopping musical acts. The 16th annual show was no exception with the biggest names in the modeling industry such as supermodel Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Karlie Kloss and Chanel Iman. The winged goddesses (only a chosen few get to wear the prized wings) sauntered down the runway in barely there lingerie in a variety of themed show segments. The over-the-top twelve million dollar show featured the musical stylings of Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and Maroon 5.
The fashion of the show was styled into a variety of segments which showed the many attitudes of the angels. The opener consisted of real ballet dancers and models with ribbon laced stilettos. There were super hero angels with capes, bubble wings and in skin tight costumes. Vampy angels with black feather wings and thigh-high sheer tights marked a distinct segment of the show and the casual Pink line had models dressed up as disco balls.
When the show airs on November 29th (on CBS) women across Canada will be wondering how these top models stay in shape. Recently, Andriana Lima admitted that preparing for this month’s Victoria’s Secret show has not been an easy experience. “It is really intense. It’s not really the amount of time you spend working out, it’s the intensity: I jump rope, I do boxing, I lift weights, but I get bored doing that. If I am not moving I get bored very easily,” said the supermodel who has been training since August. Lima also revealed that she has been seeing a nutritionist who had her on protein shakes and no solids for the nine days leading up to the big day. Lima isn’t new to the pressure of being in top shape. “Adriana works really hard at it,” said Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, the chief stylist for this year’s show. “It’s the same as if you were a long distance runner. They are athletes in this environment – it’s harder to be a Victoria’s Secret model because no one can just chuck an outfit on you and hide your lumps and bumps.” Be your own judge when the show airs, but you’ll likely agree that all of her hard work paid off and that you’d never know that she’s not only an angel but a mother too. Lima who has been an angel since 2000 gave birth to daughter Valentina in 2009.
