In its ongoing effort to promote Korean cultural, the Korean Cultural Centre Canada (KCC) is screening the film Three Sisters online from Wednesday, April 20 to Tuesday, April 26.
Three Sisters is about seemingly ordinary sisters who are forced to confront shared childhood scars on their father’s birthday. The film is an emotional rollercoaster that portrays contemporary Korean society through the sisters: oldest sister Hee-Sook (Kim Sun-Young), middle sister Mi-Yeon (Moon So-Ri) and youngest sister Mi-Ok (Jang Yoon-Ju). The sisters live separate lives, but as the story unfolds, we see the pain and anxiety from their childhood trauma that they’ve yet to deal with. The film raises the irony of family values and depicts the societal view of domestic violence and trauma through the sisters.
The third featured film from director Seung-won Lee, Three sisters was invited to numerous film festivals, including Jeonju International Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival. It won prestigious awards at Korean Gold Awards Festival, Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, and Buil Film Awards.
The film showcases superb performances by three leading Korean actresses. Two of them received the best actress award and the best-supporting actress award for their roles at the 42nd Blue Dragon Awards.
